Tree and Shrub Giveaway Pre-Registration

Trees and shrubs will be available for pick up on Sunday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., in Riverdale Park in front of Riverdale Zoo at the corner of Sumach and Winchester Streets.

Descriptions & Ideal Growing Conditions for each Variety:

Large tree

·         Bur Oak – Full sun/part shade, grows [to] 60+ ft., acorns and golden fall colour

·         Sugar Maple – Full sun to shade, grows to 60+ ft., yellow/orange/red fall colour

·         Basswood – Full sun/part shade, grows 60+ ft., summer flowers, yellow fall colour

Medium-sized tree

·         Eastern Redcedar – Full sun, grows 30+ ft., blue-green needles, berry-like cones

Small tree/Large shrub

·         Serviceberry – Full sun/part shade, grows 10-20 ft., spring flowers, orange in fall

·         Witch Hazel – Sun to shade, needs moist soil, grows 10-20 ft., yellow fall flowers

·         Common Elderberry – Sun to part shade, grows 10 ft., spring flowers, yellow in fall

Medium shrub

·         Red Osier Dogwood – Sun to part shade, grows 7-10 ft., spring flowers, red in fall

·         Ninebark – Sun to part shade, grows 6-10 ft., white spring clusters, bronze in fall

Small shrub

·         Meadowsweet – Full sun, grows 3-6 ft., white flowers through summer, yellow in fall
